We have all 585 handmade works in-house for ‘In the Kitchen’ which opens on September 4 (be sure to be there for free food and drink).  Here’s some of what you should expect…

• cutting boards
• teapots
• salt and pepper shakers (wood and/or clay)
• muffin baskets
• whiskey jug
• iron pots and pans (cast iron, seriously!)
• butter bells
• mugs, cups and saucers
• corner cupboard and hutch
• dinner table
• trivets
• wooden spoons
• pitchfork chairs
• table runners
• linens, placemats and napkins
• kitchen-themed art
• and geez… there’s a TON more

But for now all the work is staying in boxes until after the upcoming ‘Intro to PMC’ workshop with Wendy Schuster.

Seems like I should be thrilled that there’s not one more thing added to my plate this week, but I love pulling together these store settings.  And you should see the work we have… WOW!  You can see some of it on the Guild’s Flickr photostream.

So I’m counting the days til I can get everything tagged and set.  In the meantime, we’ve put together a window display at 252 N. Prince St (Lancaster).  Stop by and check it out.

In the Kitchen opens September 4 on First Friday in Lancaster.

Fill your cupboards with handmade goodness.

Today is First Friday in Lancaster!  I love walking down the street and seeing all of the other art lovers flocking to their favorite galleries. 

We’ve been busy adding new events this year but we’re not quite to the point of being able to be open every First Friday.  With three fine craft fairs, 60 workshops, 3 exhibitions and 2 stores with only three staff members, we’re doing a lot. 

But for today, I’m looking forward to our September First Friday opening of In the Kitchen.  Here’s a selection of images for that.

Since today is the deadline for our members to apply to ‘In the Kitchen,’ it seemed like a natural first post for our new blog. 

When we first thought of the idea to convert our Lancaster gallery into a kitchen-themed store for the month of September, we thought we should get a stove and a refrigerator to set the mood of the showcase.  But since then, the thing that’s stuck with me the most is the idea of having a dining room table decked out with woven linens, plates, dishes and utensils – all of which are handmade by local craftsmen.

The kitchen is such a central part of everyone’s home and is one of the most common places to find crafts.  It was a perfect fit.  You can expect wooden spoons, salt and pepper shakers, coffee mugs, table linens, cutting boards, cookie jars, metal pans, pitchers, plates, barstools and more.

If you’re a current member, it’s not too late to apply but you have to get it postmarked today.  If you’re thinking about becoming a member, stores are a new offering from the Pennsylvania Guild (for example, learn about Handmade Holiday).  And if you’re obsessed about handmade crafts in the kitchen mark your calendar now – I know I have.
